James Hutton Limited is the commercial arm of the James Hutton Institute.
The Institute is one of the world’s largest potato research centres and its scientists are world leaders in the study of pests and diseases of potato in particular late blight, potato cyst nematode, black leg and viruses. The Institute is also home to the Commonwealth Potato Collection – a genebank of landrace and wild potatoes, held in trust with the support of the Scottish Government.
With access to unrivalled expertise and genetic resources, James Hutton Limited manages several breeding consortia and programmes, building alliances to support the development of the next generation of potato varieties. Through our experienced team of breeders, James Hutton Limited can offer commercial potato breeding programmes for both the fresh and processing sectors for customers in the UK or overseas as well as bespoke crosses using proprietary germplasm.
James Hutton Limited laboratories provide molecular diagnostic genotyping services and germplasm screening for specific molecular markers as well as a service to analyse soil for common species of free-living nematode, especially those that vector Tobacco Rattle Virus (TRV).
